I do agree that the show is scary - even still, when I know everything's that coming, I tend to get nightmares after finishing a rewatch - but I think it's such a wonderful development of the story and it does such phenomenal things with the exploration of grief. If scary is a problem though, skip it! The movie's a very different experience - I look forward to talking about it once you've seen it :D
Ooh have you watched either of The Haunting of Hill House adaptations? I enjoy them both for very different reasons.
